Crown prince inaugurates press photo exhibition today

Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, opens an exhibition entitled “Saudi Historical Press Photo Gallery” at the International Convention and Exhibition Center in Riyadh today.
This is the first exhibition in the Kingdom that aims to recover and provide images of the Saudi media. Press photos will cover the period since the beginning of Saudi media until early the 1980s.
The event will emphasize the significance of the photos on the documentation of the history of the Kingdom. A forum will be organized at the Media Studies Department of Imam Muhammad University.
“The exhibition comes within the overall efforts of the government to preserve national memories, which include the national archive for photos and other projects that document written and oral history,” said Prince Sultan bin Salman, head of the Charity Heritage Foundation, which organized the exhibition.
The two-week event shows historically significant press photos in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities and the King Abdul Aziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Durah), the King Fahd National Library and Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University.
Prince Sultan noted Prince Salman’s care in preserving culture and save landmarks of national identity. “The exhibition is important as it recalls key historical events that took place in the Kingdom and that the press has documented in pictures and words,” he said.
“This photo exhibition is the first step toward memorizing the history of Saudi Arabia as it was published in the Arab and international press. After the completion of the two-week exhibition, the photos will tour of a number of areas in the Kingdom,” said Prince Sultan.
